Topic A: Adding Fuel to Fire the Olympic Torch and International Turmoil

Hello Delegates!

Hope everyone is having a pleasant time doing research and thinking of resolutions to such complex topics. I am very excited to see you next month!

I hope everyone is keeping an eye on the news, especially with the Beijing Olympics coming close to an end. This article focuses on a specific event that took place during the Olympics.

The news regarding an Uyghur-related skier lighting the flame for the Olympics opening ceremonies took us by surprise. In an event where many diplomats decided to boycott the Olympics due to China’s treatment of Uyghurs, this selection may raise an eyebrow or two. Is it a display of unity or another political stunt by the Chinese? It is important to note that Dinigeer Yilamujang, the Uyghur skier in question, also participated in the competition yet failed to pass through the “mixed zone” where competitors are mandated to address the media.

What does your country think about this event? What types of international cooperation are needed to find out the truth? What would your country suggest China do? Do keep an eye on the news as more updates are inevitable as we approach the finale of the Olympics and the opening of BMUN conference!
